Special Agriculture Committee to be made aware of Malathagama Locusts Extension


A special Committee on Agriculture has been held at the Office conference hall on 02.06.2020 to inform the officials on the distribution of a variety of locusts in the Mawathagama area and the severe damage to crops. Divisional Secretary, Kurunegala District Disaster Management Assistant Director, Regional Agriculture Officers, Agriculture Research and Production Assistants,, Economic Development Officers and Grama Niladharis participated in this meeting


In the Mawathagama Divisional Secretariat area a harmful locust species has been identified. Agriculture officials in the area and the Divisional Secretary of Mawathagama have observed that they are causing severe damage to the cultivation in a short period of time. Agricultural researchers are of the opinion that these locusts can spread to other areas as well. The Secretary asks.
